Trailers that are not slow moving vehicles must be registered and where applicable taxed. Registration must take place before the trailer is put to use.
The first inspection for trailers with a total weight of max 3,500 kg must take place within 48 months of first use, i.e. when the trailer was registered for the first time.
Thenceforth at the latest 24 months after the preceding inspection.
Note that a new registration inspection is required after modifications to a trailer, e.g. the repositioning of axles on boat trailers.
